Safety Equipment
A well-equipped vessel is the foundation of safe offshore boating. Carrying the appropriate safety equipment helps ensure that every trip you will be prepared for the unexpected. Although we do our best to provide accurate forecasts, it is not always one hundred percent right. Offshore conditions can change quickly, equipment can break, and injuries can happen. Below you will find some key safety equipment that we recommend in addition to the required safety equipment for recreational boats.
First up on our list is emergency locator beacons. There are two main types, EPIRBs and PLBs, and they both serve different purposes. An Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) is designed for the vessel and can automatically activate (depending on the make and model) if the boat sinks or capsizes. A Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) is worn by an individual and must be manually activated.
